Suyá is a Brazilian self-taught multi-instrumentalist, composer and audiovisual designer born in Salvador Bahia. Graduating in 2016 With a BA in Music Electronic Composition from Mills College( Oakland , California) , Suyá has played guitar and bass with various groups in a variety of diverse genres from classical music, to the brazilian rhythms and electronic beats to the old rock’n’roll.
She has been very active as an instrumentalist and composer for contemporary dance, film and theater since she moved to and around the West Coast. For her journey she has adopted the guitar as her main source of creation( a dedicated passion lasting now for about 15 years), processed by analog and digital pedals.
She also expresses a fascination for the manipulation of synthesizers, field recordings and the use of DAWS such as Garageband and Ableton Live for the creation of her musical world, whilst being a DJ, an educational mentor and music instructor to female and non-binary youth.
Suyá is also a very talented sound designer and soundtrack composer having as a part of her recent portfolio 4 short films: Náufraga and Eu Negra by Juh Almeida, Não Conte a Ninguém by Márcio Genaro and Wangari a tribute made for the activist by the Kenyan filmmaker Ngendo Mukii.
Within her fascination for the visual arts, Suyá makes use within her solo performances of her personal photography and video portfolio in a surreal assembly; whilst expressing her subconscious as perceived by her own self.
In her music each ornament becomes a peace of her soul where all sentiments and emotions abide in coexistence. Every moment has a rhythm, an essence attached to her memory… The idea is to keep these memories alive in traveling waves of sound.
Dynamically Suyá travels from a breeze to increments of harmonic noise, involved by melodies that touch the derm and images that will reflect in the cornea of your mind, forever.
In 2021 Suyá becomes Suyá Synergy with her first solo album release entitled "Aquarius". In her synergy she will mix dance, performance and sound delivered in film format as well as on all digital platforms. Seven original compositions vibrating on a frequency of change, from the perspective of a time of forgiveness, transmutation, peace and liberation. “The beginning of the Age of Aquarius brings us another scientific, technological, spiritual and philosophical dimension. A higher dimension composed of unconditional love and the recognition that each one of us is really a part of a whole. ", Reflects.
And so Aquarius is born, in a surreal assembly as life itself is. Mixing electronic and organic instrumentation guided by a guitar that sings and a voice that soothes. Poetic lyrics that expand on the knowledge of every little detail of a living spirit. Each musical ornament becomes a peace of one’s soul where all sentiments and emotions abide in coexistence.
